Physiological Sensing of Learning

Physiological Sensing of Learning

Background

This project investigates whether insights during everyday experiences can be detected through physiological measures, and how to support them. People can have ideas anywhere, at any time. The detection of insights so far has been mostly through cognitive systems (e.g. EEG). Little is understood on how insights are formed and only a few have tried to capture insights in-situ. We seek to understand how people learn in the face of problem-solving in everyday life.

Activity

  • Capture of a variety of physiological signals during lab-induced moments of insights as opposed to rest and non-insight moments
  • Cross-validation of two physiological-signal detecting devices: high-end lab-based physiological recording system and a wearable watch with physiological sensors
  • Design of wearable prompts triggered through physiological signal sensing
